Sinikka Pollanen – Ph.D in educational sciences and Professor of Craft Science at the University of Eastern Finland – in her article, “Craft as a Context in Therapeutic Change” (2009), suggests that craft can be a very therapeutic activity that can help maintain functional mental health. She supports her proposal by providing clearly defining of each of topics for the reader and then providing many outside sources as evidence to support each of those topics in her analysis. Her purpose is to inform her readers of the benefits of including crafting within therapy or using the activity as therapy in order to prove and convince the reader that crafting is a legitimate therapy tool. She establishes a very professional relationship with her audience by writing with a formal tone.
